Sunshine

The last couple of days we have seen the sun once again!  We do have a chance of a little rain tonight.  It has been so nice to be able to get out into the garden again.  Trying to get the weeds under control....I have some more mulching to do.

Today I was able to hill the smaller potato plants for the first time and pick off the potato bugs.  They have now found the younger plants, so far I have been able to keep them under control with only picking them off.  Hopefully I can keep on top of them, we do not use any chemicals in the garden, so there have been times when the potato bugs win the battle.

The lettuce has really been growing.  We have been eating salads everyday and I have pulled a few plants to give away.  I am not sure if we will be able to get all of it used before it bolts.  Plan on starting some new seed next week a later crop.  It is so nice to be getting a few fresh things from the garden, waiting for the first tomato.   My early hills of potatoes have been blossoming, so we should have little reds by the 4th of July.

My sweet hubby had an unexpected lay off this week so that has been nice.  I wish he could be home all of the time, a few more years.   He got some projects done for me and we have more to work on this summer.  The big projects will be painting our shutters and doors and we need to put in new vents around the house outside.

Have a wonderful Father's Day weekend!

I put potatoes in the ground several weeks ago, and, truth be told, have hardly been out there since! I guess I should be looking for nasty critters that like to eat them, eh?
