True Beauty

I have been going over the notes this morning from our sermon on Sunday. It has been a challenge to think about what is True Beauty? In 1Peter 3:3-6 it talks about true beauty.

Verse 3
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

True beauty should not be our external adornment. It is so easy to get caught up in the fashions of today, we have to have certain name brands, look a certain way, be a certain size, it can go on and on. But is that what really makes us beautiful? Our outward dress needs to reflect who we are in Christ. What we wear reflects our heart.

1 Timothy 2:9a
In like manner also, that woman adorn themselves in modest apparel

True beauty should come from our inward adornment. God created each of us and is concerned about our heart.

1 Peter 3: 4
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

We need to adorn our self spiritually. The clothing which makes a christian women truly attractive is the beauty of the hidden person. God considers precious the jewel of a gentle and quiet spirit. A meek and quiet spirit comes with a growing relationship with Christ. Truly beautiful christian women are set apart from this world.

When we think about how much time each day that we spend on adorning the outside of our body, if we would spend that much time on adorning our spirit how different our lives would be.

Proverbs 31:30
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord,
she shall be praised.

Build and they will come, the birds that is!

I bought this bird house at a rummage sale, when we first put it up no birds came around it. A couple of days ago we had four tree swallows fighting over it. This little bird and its mate won. They have been busy building their nest. The bird house is just out side of the patio door, they have been so much fun to watch. This is the first time I have seen any of these birds in our yard.

This little bird was also fighting over the first bird house. So today I bought another bird house and my dh mounted it on the back of the fence. You can kind of see it through the fence. It only took a couple of hours before this little bird was checking it out. I was surprised at how fast they find the houses, will be watching at rummage sales this summer for more.

Yesterday we had in the 80's and when I looked out this Robin was just sitting in the bird bath cooling off.

We have been enjoying beautiful weather. Yesterday I planted some of my flowers in the window boxes and flower pots. Some of the flowers are starting to bloom now, the purple flags, phlox, and iris. I love it when all of the flowers start blooming. Tomorrow it is back to planting the garden.

Anxious to get into the garden

This past weekend we had about 3" of snow. It was very pretty, looked a lot like Christmas, except that the apple tree was in bloom along with tulips and daffodils. After the snow the weather turned cold here in the 20's at night. I did have a few hills of red potatoes up and they did get touched a little by frost. But I think they will be ok. The cold did not do anything to my lettuce or onions.

My daughter took the pictures of the snow for me. She caught the Cardinal at the feeder, he usually doesn't sit here when other birds are at the feeder.

This week so far it has been cold and damp, not gardening weather. I have been anxious to get back at planting the garden then I remembered my mom's garden. Mom and my uncle always had a friendly competition when it came to gardening. My uncle always tried to get his garden in as early as he could, it seems mom's never got in before Memorial Day weekend. Dad had to take time from the field work to work up her garden. My uncles garden would come up and just sort of sit there and not grow very well to start with. Mom's garden always caught right up to his and you would never know that she had planted later. She always told him the garden did much better if you waited and planted when the weather had warmed up and stays warm. So I will wait before finishing my garden and do as mom did, plant closer to Memorial Day weekend.

Today is cloudy and colder so I am baking bread and have some cards to work on for a wedding and a couple of birthdays. I will enjoy the time to make some cards before the weather gets nice and there will be outside things to be done.

Enjoy your day!

National Day of Prayer

Take time to pray today for our nation, our families, our friends, and our churches.
Our Lord answers prayer.

Jeremiah 33:3
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great
and might things which thou knowest not.

Psalm 46:10a
Be still, and know that I am God:

What a blessing to know that our Lord is in control.

Good Weekend

We had a very nice weekend. It is always fun when the grandsons spend a couple of nights! On Saturday we went to my dads for his 85th birthday, I took him a rhubarb pie. He always enjoys getting baked goods. He was happy to see his great grandsons again. It was nice to just spend a little time with dad to celebrate, with his health we cherish each celebration.

On Sunday our pastor had a very good sermon on really thinking about what it means to us if we have Jesus as our personal Savior. Before salvation we were: 1. spiritually dead, sin separates us from God 2. spiritually sick, sin holds us captive 3. spiritually lost 4. spiritually unprotected, sin puts us in danger. Now we have: 1. new life, we have a new purpose 2. spiritual healing 3. spiritual direction 4. spiritual protection, God guides us. It was such a good reminder of what the Lord has done for us, do we really praise Him for all He has done in our lives.

John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. What a promise to know that nothing can take us from our Father once we are His child.

I Peter 1:5(a) Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

Have a great day!
